How to Use The BBQ

  1. Open fires are a hazard in fynbos areas. Be careful and maintain adult supervision at all times.
  2. The fireplace is double-sided. Keep the side that you will not be using closed.
  3. Open the top lid and lock it securely into place by turning the metal lever on the chimney above the unit.
  4. This is a safety feature, but also opens the chimney.  Smoke will kick back out the front of the chimney if you don’t lock this lever.
  5. Two clips on the inside of the lid secure the bottom panel. Lift these simultaneously while lowering the lid carefully till the chains are fully extended.
  6. For the best results (and best smoke flow), start your fire in the coal basket on the side of the unit and rake the coals over when it falls through.
  7. Kindling, fire starters,  a lighter, and heat resistant glove can be found in the black plastic container under the braai.
  8. Tongs, coal, and grid scrapers are under the coal pan on the inside when opened from the porch side of the unit.
